What is an .lkd file?
Some older Pioneer car stereos, such as the DEH-P7600MP, had tiny animated worlds in their blue OEL displays: dolphins, mountains, racing cars, and more. Owners could load custom animations from a CD or over a PC link, and those animations were stored as .lkd files that no current software opens.
An .lkd file is a thin wrapper around standard formats: a 20-byte header, then a gzip-compressed TAR archive holding one bitmap. That bitmap is 60 frames of 256 × 64 pixels stacked on top of each other. Carozerra unpacks it in your browser and plays it on a DEH-P7600MP faceplate, so your files never leave your device.
How to play or convert an .lkd file
Choose one of the 83 built-in clips, or open .lkd files from your own discs. You can change the speed, step through all 60 frames, and save any animation as a GIF or WebM.
Desktop and Android apps
The same player runs as a desktop app for Linux and Windows, with the stereo’s own controls wired to real actions, and as an Android app for aftermarket head units. The Windows and Android builds are beta releases. Downloads on GitHub · Source code and format notes
